On June 25th, 2002, the 9th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals ruled that the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional and cannot be recited in public schools because it contains the words "under God." This nbelievable and absurd ruling is yet another salvo from activist judges more interested in making their own law rather than following the Constitution.
After months of anxious waiting, the Supreme Court has announced it will hear the case against the Pledge of Allegiance. The Christian Family Coalition is calling on ALL who support the phrase "One nation under God" should remain in the Pledge to take immediate action by signing our "Protect the Pledge Petition".
We, as Americans, stand with members of the United States Congress in asking the Supreme Court of the United States to affirm the constitutionality of the Pledge of Allegiance with the phrase "under God' included.
We support the Pledge of Allegiance, including the phrase, "One nation under God." We believe that the action taken by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, in declaring our Pledge UNCONSTITUTIONAL, is a direct violation of our Constitutional freedom.

My natural response:
This is so wrong. You call yourself patriots? You claim to stand for freedom and against tyranny, yet push to force religion on people? The Ninth Circuit court IS protecting the Constitution with their ruling, as the first part of the First Amendment states clearly that the government shall make no establishment whatsoever of religion.
The only way the Pledge of Allegiance will ever be protected is if we keep those words out of it. No one is taking away your faiths, only protecting those who choose not to follow your brainwashing doctrines.
I request--no, demand--that you remove me from your mailing lists. I refuse to be associated with such an un-American organization.

I don't understand how such things can still exist, why did people get all offended when I pointed out it was wrong to show Bush giving a televised speech in a church after 9/11? Why do all US coins and bills have "In God we trust" written on them?
It really boggles my european mind to see all these things... I remember when I was in primary school (public school in France), the teachers were afraid to talk about the bible, because whenever we talked about it they had to neither condone or repress religion, which was really hard to do when we were talking about that period around year 1 A.D.

They didn't file a lawsuit because they were actually offended by the word.
They filed a lawsuit to make people more aware of the intergration of Church and State that has been going on for the past few years.
Basically, there's a problem having to do with Political Correctness that prevents people from wanting to directly critize politicians who make religiously-based speeches, so they use this to make people aware of the situation.
EDIT: I forgot to mention how much I hate being politically correct.

Chaos: Well, I had heard from the news that the whole crap started because an athiest was pissed that they were "forcing" his daughter to say "god" in the pledge of allegience at school. That suit was eventually put down, but all the coverage it got caused more people to take a side on the "issue" and now they're all complaining as we see here.

Chaos: You have a point about subtle things leading to bigger things later. I guess one could make the argument, that by allowing this instance of religion to be allowed in a governmental doctrine (probably not the right word, but whatever), it just leaves the door open to a flood of an integration of church and state. But somehow, I doubt most people would stupid enough to allow an invasion of god into the government. Or at least I would hope...
