Well, actually I haven't seen it yet. This is really just a "Happy Birthday, Chaos" thread. His birthday is the same as a girl at work's, both of which happen to be the day X2 comes out. Hope it's good, and have a good one, Chaos.

Thanks everyone. As for having a good birthday, so far it sucked. Today was the fourth day of standardized testing. Ugh. Hopefully X2 makes up for it...

And as for masculine children, I bet my kids will be idiots and nerds, just as a "screw you" from god.

Wrestling isnt so bad. Society just gives it a bad name. But whatever.

Now to actually have this topic fit its title...

I saw it yesterday with Angel of Doom and two other friends. It was a cool movie overall. The storyline was actually pretty believable with not too many obvious plot holes (there were a few, but I wont mention them). The fight scenes where pretty badass, especially the nightcrawler one at the beginning. I give this movie eight thumbs up.

On a side note, while watching the movie, I probably said the words shank or stab more times then the whole rest of my life. Watching Wolverine slice up those mofos was very enjoyable indeed.

yes, it is.

i used to watch it, and now, looking back, i realize that i must have been a lombotomy peiteint at the time(still am, cant spell paitient). the storylines are stupid, the fights are boring, and the charecters ( i refuse to call them wrestlers) keep changing so often that you cant believe them.

that movie had some of the best fight scenes in a while.

Usually this is the point where I'd try to defend it, but I suppose as long as Hulk Hogan, the Undertaker, and Triple H continue to run things I'll have to concede to what you guys are saying. I still watch because of guys like Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit who have crafted their skills into an art.

Okay, here's my take on wrestling, based on my limited but painful experiences with it.

1. BAD BAD acting. I don't mean the fighting itself. That at least looks half-way convincing. I mean when one of the wrestlers is talking down to the other one, or when they're shouting lame insults to each other. The reactions are so pitiful. Like the way-too-visible "OH NO YOU JUST OUTSMARTED ME" looks and the idiotically transparent lies, like "You never defeated me, you're making that up. Everyone knows I'm the best" and then they act all proud of themselves and flex their muscles.
2. Stupid characters. Not only could I never take a single one of them seriously, they also go out of their way to act like complete assholes that it just pisses me off to suggest that someone like that could exist. Steve Austin for instance. Every time I see him I want to strangle him. I don't care if he's twice my size, I would beat him to the ground with the largest object I could find if he came within 30 feet of me.
3. What exactly are the rules? I mean, they seem to have fairly simple rules to wrestling, but every so often they randomly don't apply.

I saw a wrestling match once where there was a really long tag-team match. I'm a little ashamed to admit that I got a little involved in the fight and started silently cheering on one team. I'll just call them the "good guys" for lack of a better term. They were winning and were about to pin one of the bad guys when someone out of the ring threw something at the referee and knocked him out. They then proceeded to beat up the good guys with the help of their "friend". Suddenly some random wrestler comes running into the stadium to help out the good guys and starts to win when a few more dirty tricks screw everything up and a second referee gets knocked out. Finally in the end, one of the "bad guys" pins down one of the good guys and a third referee comes in for the three-count. The bad guys now parade around, patting themselves on the back, calling themselves the best wrestlers ever, etc, despite that they clearly would have lost if the rules hadn't somehow magically not applied.

I think it was the most stupid piece of crap I'd ever seen in my life. It's not a sport, there's not enough story to actually call it a story (and it's badly done, at that) and I think the only redeeming values it has are the fighting and the familiar characters, each of which you can see a million other places that are so much better.

Yeah, this kind of stuff is way too predictable. As for the rules, they dont apply if the ref doesnt see it. Unless it's a "hardcore" match, where aything goes, pins count anywhere, and title shots can just happen at random.

remember that

I don't think wrestling is so bad but I mostly agree with hyena, it would certainly not do them any bad if the people who get paid to write the "stories" spent more than half an hour writing them. And personnally I think (since it's a show, not a sport or a contest, let's not forget that) they should focus more on spectacular stunts (the chair or the table have been overused, it's time to move on) and more believable scenarios. And for god's sake, why do these guys need to be so huge? I mean that trend has passed, the strong guys aren't always the bigger. And bad acting seems to come everytime there's too much muscle... ( oh come on, you've all seen that terrible movie with Hulk Hogan... and it's a movie, not a live show, they can shoot it again if it sucked...)

Maaaaan...I had a reply all lined up before I got fucking disconnected...so now I have to start all over...but I think it went something like this:

Quoting Doc Funky from before he got disconnected:

Quoting Everybody:

HEY HEY WRESTLING

I really like wrestling...but I can admit that the stuff the WWE puts out lately is really subpar.
Let's examine, shall we?
WWE RAW:
The Good: Chris Jericho, Rock (though he's gone now), Hurricane, Christian, Booker T. (in that order)
The Bad: Triple H, bad writing, Triple H, predictable/recycled matches UP THE ASS, Good Ol' JR, Triple H.

WWE Smackdown!:
Well, I won't break it down like Raw because Smackdown! just doesn't interest me as much. While it looks good on paper (Guerreros, Benoit, Cena, Team Angle, etc.), it just seems like a watered-down, pussified version of Raw.

What I really like is watching NWA: Total Nonstop Action. Sure, Vince Russo runs the show, so there's always like a pointless catfight now and then, but the wrestling is always entertaining, and the storylines are better than WWE stuff, at least. And hey...you've gotta love Raven's "I'm really just in the bathroom with the lights off, but there are candles on the floor and weird camera angles so it's really my lair of solitude and doom" promos...or anything with Raven in it at all. I mean, come on! It's Raven! Hell, I'd pay the $9.99 PPV fee just for the Raven promo.
But that's just me.

Ho hum...back to Xenogears.

What could be worse you say? Try WCW before it got bought out. No amount of cruiserweight action was able to save that sinking ship. Think WWE right now, except with even worse gimmicks and storylines and horrible production. Why Ted Turner wanted it to keep it alive we'll never know.

It's too bad they stick him in pointless feuds that don't go anywhere (i.e. Matt Hardy, Big Show). And why he always has to get injured by some big slow idiot each time he needs surgery is beyond me. Why not have Matt Hardy or John Cena do it? Then they could build them up instead of A-Train and Big Slow, the biggest wastes of space I've EVER seen.

Y'know how to make wrestling really cool? Just do it like the video games- just put the people in there and let the fists fly. No storylines or nothing, just people beating the crap out of each other. I wanna see some severe damage dealt in there and nothin' else! That's all I ask.

I say so what if this message was pointless and insipid, that's me for ya!

I dunno. I'd go back to watching wrestling if they made it more video-game like. When a wrestler uses a finishing move, huge lights would flash everywhere, causing most of the audience to convolse into seizures, and the wrestlers would call out all their wrestling moves, which would be pronounced as if they were being read off a Japanese cuecard (ROCKU BOTOOMUU!! PEDAAAGREEEU! BUSTAAH WOOOF!)

Chaos: Heh at the title change.

Yes, some insane stunts could make wrestling very interesting. I'd like to see it more fast-paced and varied, myself. All of the wrestling I've seen is one guy doing these rediculous over-the-head punches and the other guy acting like he's lost all feeling in his face, then a shove that somehow causes the opponent to continually run until he hits the ropes, then turn and run backwards right into the first guy's dropkick.

On the other hand, I think that SSX Tricky is the most stupid video game I've ever seen. I watched a demo of it in a store. The stunts all look really cheesy and nowhere near plausible.
