01/11/2004 05:16:03AM | I learned a new term.
Anyway, yeah, I've played games that seem as though they weren't tested. Like Dragon's Lair for NES. Yech. Horrid control. |
01/10/2004 11:46:38AM | Basically a beta is a pre-released version of the game, a game that needs to be tested before it is okayed for release... What people call a boxed beta would be a game that is so horrid it looks like it hasn't been beta tested (I think Hyena's review of Frogger Advance illustrates the concept pretty well)
I don't have a game title heady (hey, we can say handy, why not heady, when you can't think of something!?!), but I do agree on Sim City 2000 for the GBA... The game is virtually unplayable... I had fun doing a couple of things here and there, but sim city just isn't sim city if you can't manage the budget WHENEVER YOU WANT... Oh well... I thought Sim City 2000 for the Sega Saturn sucked, but it's actually VERY playable compared to this piece of crap they released on the GBA... |
01/10/2004 10:19:53AM | Hmm... I don;t really know of anything I could warn everyone of... Well, maybe one thing...
Car Battler Joe While this is a pretty fun game, I suggest you not buying it for yourself. The game is much to short to be worth the money of buying it. If you can, just rent it, or borrow it from a friend. If you can't rent/borrow it, buy it used. At least this way you won't be out so much money. |
| Suppo 01/10/2004 05:59:21AM | i think we're supposed to "beta-test" games. But the released versions of said games. thus warning people not to get said game. I think... |
01/10/2004 05:32:24AM | I'm not sure I understand this "Boxed beta" concept.
Is it a beta, but released to the public? |
| +Kazuma 01/09/2004 03:18:14AM | This is more of a public service announcement deal, warn each other of horrid horrid games.
My boxed beta: picked up Sim City 2000 for gba, now i was expecting it to be stripped down, but not unplayable. I started out messing around with a from scratch city, but i did most of my zoning etc with the camera rotated 90 degrees. I saved it and when i reloaded it it treated the placement of stuff as if i had dropped it without rotating, roads ran onto water and then stopped and lots of other interesting things. Nice to see the QA dept is doing its job for them, its like i spent 20$ on an aggrivating lump of plastic rather than a simplified classic :( They removed elevations for terain, water management(thank god) but tiles still state whether they are watered or not (apparently water flows over power lines), it doesnt look like there are arcologies, but the time investment for that is way too big without proper saving, and the budget predictions seem to be nearly worthless, and the area is way too tiny, and the cart can only have one city saved at a time etc etc yay mini review too bad i have 6 courses this semester or id make it into an article |
