01/06/2004 07:33:56PM | I hooked up a harddrive with win98 to my new computer and harddrive with WinXP and was able to transfer stuff fine. |
| DCB 01/05/2004 10:23:55AM | Well, according to this I don't need to wipe out my old drive, I just need to back it up as a safeguard. But I could always use extra info and advice on this matter. |

| DCB 01/05/2004 04:40:56AM | I've considered that. I've also considered using this zip drive my friend gave to me after he helped me put this new machine together, but I'd need disks and shit.
I was hoping to make a direct transition, though. Since posting this I was able to learn about XP's convert tool from a Google search, but since it's kinda risky considering the amount of data in the old drive I might have to do some kind of combination of zip drive backup and partition conversion. |

I don't know if it will work, I'm just throwing an idea out there. |
| DCB 01/05/2004 01:36:38AM | I just got a new system and have placed my old system's hard drive in with a new 80GB one. Problem is that I've installed Windows XP on my new drive but can't access the old one due to a different partition format or something. Right now I have it set up to boot the old drive so I can still access my old files. Is there a way to transfer these old files to my new drive or convert the old drive? My friend who helped put my new machine together said that there are ways for both drives to communicate with each other despite the different formats. |
