Hmmm. I just thought of something.

Basically look at it this way:

1)Johns constant meddling doesnt prevent judgment day. everything happens anyways, just a bit differently.
2)from this, we can assume that you cant change the course of time no matter what you do
3)yet the machines keep trying to kill john anyways
4)now, if time keeps following these rules and standards, that would just mean someone ELSE would rise up and fight them

but of course, since the machines are trying to change things that have ALREADY happened, rather then things to come, that might change the rules a bit

Ummm, I'm not sure if I didn't understand anything or if everyone else got it wrong... Arnold says to john (while in the camping truck) that he "executed" him... that means he mmust have committed a crime of some sort. Otherwise, , he would have said killed or "terminated"...
Basically the point of this film is to say that wether or not you think you can alter things, you're bound to do what destiny has programmed for you, one way or another, John Connor couldn't understand he was to save the earth and something terrible had to happen before... In any case that's what was bound to happen so wether or not he wants it to, it will happen. That's the point of Destiny, even if you know what your destiny is and try everything to avoid fulfilling it, it will still happen. Cause T-101 comes from the future and if he comes from the future, it means that he has already been sent back in time, which is why he even was in the future... I'm having a hard time explaining this but "12 monkeys" explains this way better if you really want to bother understanding what I'm saying (and want to see a really good movie.

Yes... This is the problem! They were all killed, but they were apparently key parts of Connor's resistance movement... Weren't they? Or else why would they have become targets? I still don't understand why nobody gives a crap about the lieutenants in the movie... ;)

Hmm...now that I think about it, they wouldn't have ended up as his lieutenants anyway. Remember, he was supposed to "hook up" with his wife the night after the party, but that's when the T-1000 came in T2. So he probably wasn't going to end up with them as his close friends anyway, even though he did end up getting his wife back.
Hmm...it makes me wonder why the T-X was even sent back, if John wasn't friends with them due to his wandering ways...oh well.

Quoting kiwibonga:

Oooh... Ok... But... How is he the same one... He denies any connection with the T-101 from T2, and he dies at the end of T3, how can he know... erm.. oh... Maybe I should have drawn schematics of the scenes and the events in time heh... So that means... Yeah! John Connor is already dead when Arnold is sent to the past, so he knows how all that stuff happened... But he says he was captured, that means he's the one who killed John Connor, but he was reprogrammed, right?

Well, first of all, the two Arnolds aren't the same. They're just the same model. Skynet probably has whole assembly lines that just churn out the same model of Terminator over and over. So the Terminators all look the same, but individually they're totally different machines.
One Arnold is sent back to 199X to save John, and is terminated.
Skynet sends another Arnold to kill John in the (future) present, and it succeeds because John drops his guard upon recognizing the terminator from his childhood. John's wife captures and reprograms the Arnold that killed John, then sends him back to 200X in order to protect the lieutenants...one of which is her, of course.

Quoting kiwibonga:

I don't remember that line... When does he say it?

He says it as he's holding the bomb shelter's blast door open for John and his wife to crawl through.
John crawls by and says "Thanks" or something, and Arnold replies with "You'll see me again".
...because he will, when Arnold comes to kill him.

HAPPY FUN EDIT FOR DCB:
Well, they made it really obvious that Judgement Day could still happen by leaving Arnold's arm stuck in those gears.
I mean, it's not like the cops wouldn't find it when cleaning up the "crime scene".

All this time travel shit can be very confusing, no?

Basically, I have a reason to hate this film--not because it's bad (it's not), but because it makes the second film totally pointless...no matter what they did there was no way they could stop Judgment Day from happening, which was the whole point of T2.

And, Arnold kills him in the future because Skynet knows that John would have a soft spot for Arnold's model of terminator, because of what happened in T2...so Skynet programs an Arnold-inator and sends it to kill John, just like Arnold said while driving the RV.

I thought Arnold's line of "You'll see me again" was fucking killer, but nobody else I talked to seemed to get it.

How come only John Connor and the girl whose name I can't recall are saved, I thought all his lieutenants were supposed to live too... :\ And I still didn't get why Arnold kills him in the future... Ow well ;)

Well.. I just watched it yesterday and I have to say it's a great movie, but... There just has to be a Terminator 4... I want to see John Connor fight the machines with his armies, god damn it!

There's one thing that I didn't like so much, it's the fact that there was this "virus" on the internet... After seeing Antitrust and You've Got Mail, there's just this thing about "internet flicks" which just... Doesn't clicks... (That was for the rhyme)

Seriously, though, the Terminator series still is my favorite, and if there's no Terminator 4, I want Suppo and his movie-making degree to direct it!

I saw it today and I thought it was pretty good.
It doesn't really measure up to T2 in my opinion, but I think it stands on its own pretty well...I just wanted it to be longer. There weren't enough confrontations between the terminators, in my opinion. I did like the ending, though.

And yes...Kristanna was smokin' hot.

Overall good movie. Kristanna Loken is super hot. Nick Stahl is a decent actor. The action and effects were pretty good. I wasn't satisfied with the ending. I'm too tired to really get into details right now.
