 EZ-Flash Advance
- The best thing to happen to Game since Boy
The EZ-Flash Advance (or EZFA), is one of the best flash carts available on the market today. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of flash carts, think of them like memory sticks for your Gameboy. You can load games and utilities from your computer onto these little beauties. But most people would probably care less about the utilities and just use it for ROMs (Note: Kiwibonga Advance does not support nor condone the illegal piracy of ROMs. They make Baby Jesus cry). But enough about that; onto this particular flash cart.

When you get this thing, it comes in a tiny box. Being cheap, the manufacturers didn't include a driver CD, so it's just the cartridge and multiboot cable in there. But no matter, downloading the drivers is a simple matter of going to their website.

The cart looks exactly the same as any other cartridge.

Upon opening the box, you'll notice the nifty red color of the cart. Not only does it look nicer than standard black, but it makes it look like a Jolly Rancher, and looking like candy is never a bad thing (unless it's rat poison and you're retarded). The only bad side is people might think you're playing Pokemon Ruby and call you a fag. That's when you put down the Gameboy and kick them in the head (Note: Kiwibonga Advance does not support nor condone kicking assholes in the head... Actually, yes we do. Kick away).

Since the cart will be empty when you first get it, you'll have to burn some games on there. Rather than use an extra piece of equipment known as a linker, the GBA does all the work. Just plug the included multiboot cable into the Link Cable socket, and connect the other end to your computer's USB. Now, you'll need to turn on the Gameboy and enter multiboot mode. The first time you use the cart (or any other time after you format it), it will automatically enter multiboot mode. But once you have anything written on there, you'll have to do it manually by holding Start+Select at the GBA intro screen.

The cart menu.

To actually write things onto the cart, you'll need to use the EZFA Client, which is extremely easy to use. Using the (+) and (-) buttons, you can add or remove files currently on the cart. When you're all done, press another button to write it all on there. Writing the software can take awhile, but EZFA is currently one of the fastest carts on the market. It takes about 5 minutes to pretty much fill up the whole cart (256 megabits).

The EZFA Client.

Now that you know how to work the thing, you'll probably want to know my opinion of it. Usually I'd say "Too damn bad," but I figure I'll be nice today. My EZFA, coupled with my GBA, is by far my favorite possession (with the exception of my computer, because without it the cart would be nigh useless). Since I've gotten it, there's hardly been a day I haven't played my GBA. Plus, it never gets old. As soon as I tire of a program (Ahem...), I'll replace it with a new one. It's well worth the investment. The only thing I'd suggest is that you get an SP if you don't already have one, because you'll burn through batteries like a lesbian orgy. Yes, it's that good.

Aside from GBA games, there's so much else you can do with an EZFA (or any flash cart for that matter). One thing that will add tons more replay to your cart will be NES, GB, SNES, and Game Gear emulators. Yes, you can actually use a special emulator and play your favorite old games. The aspect ratio is a bit buggy sometimes, but it's a small price to pay to be able to play River City Ransom on the go.

Then when you get tired of breaking the law, there are all sorts of nifty little public domain utilities available. From paint programs, to calculators, to image viewers, and text readers, there are all sorts of crap you can do.

Vandalism!

All in all, you really should definitely buy one. Social interaction is overrated anyways.
